Welcome to the 17th Edition of The Bodyboard Report! 🤙

Some editions come together slowly, one source at a time.

This one landed in my inbox almost fully formed.

A press release from the Gold Coast, a score settled by 0.36 of a point, and a proper reminder of what it actually takes to build the next generation of this sport.

The other good news is that the Cave Rock Invitational just got the green light for Saturday the 18th.

It's gonna be epic, with Mark McCarthy back in competition against young guns like Hugo Naudé.

My sister and my now talking 2-year old riot of a niece showed up early yesterday, so you all had to wait a day…

Grab a coffee and your best board.

Let's dive right in! 👇

1000s Of People Are Building Their Own App With Ai. Are You?

Every tool you're paying for right now was built by someone who's never done your job. They guessed at what you needed, wrapped it in a subscription, and now you're locked in - paying monthly for software that's 80% of what you actually want.

That other 20%? It's costing you time, workarounds, and money every single week.

Justin Burns figured out how to close that gap. He builds the exact tool he needs using AI - no code, no developers, no waiting. And this July 22-24, he's showing you how to do the same thing, live, in three days.

The event is free. The app you walk away with is yours.

Grab your seat for the Apps Built With AI Summit and stop paying for software that almost works.

D-Day at D'bah 🌊

Last year Bodi Hugin stood on the Duranbah podium in 3rd place, watching someone else lift the trophy.

This year he lifted it himself.

The 18 year old from Byron Bay Hinterland won the Australian leg of the IBC Junior World Tour Rising Series at the City of Gold Coast Future Pro's, held over 11 and 12 July at Duranbah Beach on the New South Wales and Queensland border.

He did it the hard way, beating Port Macquarie's Chase Thompson in the final by just 0.36 of a point, one of the tightest finishes the event has ever seen.

Bodi caught one of the best waves of the day and pulled off a superb right hand roll. The judges gave it a 7, and that single wave secured him the title.

Around 50 of Australia's best young bodyboarders turned out for this one, plus international competitors from Hawaii, all chasing points toward the Junior Men Grand Final later this year.

Defending champion Ossian Mackenzie, son of the legendary Steve "Bullet" Mackenzie, could not quite hold onto his crown this time, but he still posted the highest single wave score of the day, a 9.67, and shared 3rd place with Archie Williams.

Archie had his own big week too. He won every heat he surfed on the way to the semifinals, including an impressive ARS that thrilled the crowd.

A 20 year proving ground that keeps paying off 🏆

The venue matters as much as the result.

The Gold Coast Bodyboard Club has been active on the Gold Coast for more than 20 years, and it started right here at Duranbah Beach as what the club itself calls its proving ground.

Early pioneers Paul Barnard and Adam McNamara built the reputation, and Dave Winchester, Joe Clarke and Mitch Rawlins all came up through the club before competing on the world tour themselves. Current club president Silas Ganciar is one of them.

Silas has now hosted the Future Pro's at Duranbah Beach for 2 years running.

"Hosting the Future Pro's competition for a second consecutive year has been incredibly rewarding."

Silas Ganciar

He sees it as a chance for local riders to test themselves against genuine international talent while chasing qualification for the Junior final in Gran Canaria.

It is easy to only notice the world tour, the big names, the big swells.

Most careers start at a club car park with a handful of volunteers or a handful of beers…

Next stop Peru, then Morocco, then Spain 🗺️

Duranbah was the 3rd stop on the Junior World Tour Rising Series this year.

The series now heads to Peru and Morocco next month, before everything gets decided at the Junior Men Grand Final at Gran Canaria's Frontón King in October.

For our future pros in this contest, D'bah was not the finish line.

It was just one of many checkpoints.

Rock on! 🤘

Feature your brand in The Bodyboard Report

Wrapping up this session...

Nobody hands you a world tour career…

You earn it… You fight for it in 0.36 of a point increments, at your local break, in front of a crowd that fits on a sand dune, long before anyone outside your local beach knows your name.

Heat by heat.

Day by day.

Inch by inch.

Al Pacino said it best - 🏈

"Fight for that inch. Claw for that inch. At the end of the day, they add up to a mile." 😉

Keep finding the gems.

Keep charging!
